Salad Time!

January 10, 2012 in Dressings and Sauces

One of my favorite things about this time of year is all the fresh arugula! The trouble is that finding dressing without canola or vegetable oil is difficult. Even my favorite all natural ones are problematic. Not sure why that is, but I find it super frustrating.

Whats’s wrong with canola oil, you ask? Check out how it is processed. If it doesn’t gross you out, you might be reading the wrong blog!

¬†So, let’s just say making my own seemed like a bright idea!

If you are like me and prefer spicy greens like arugula, this sweet and tangy dressing is a perfect match! If not, try it anyway!

Maple Pear Vinaigrette

1/4 cup organic Pear Vinegar

( I LOVE LOVE LOVE spectrum brand organic pear white wine vinegar, but you can use something else if you want!)

3 tbsp real maple syrup

2 tsp dijon mustard

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper

3/4 cup Evoo

Whisk together all the ingredients! Store in a glass jar in the fridge.

I recommend doubling this recipe if you really like to eat salad!

This is perfect! I just received a bottle of Asian pear vinegar from one of the farmers market vendors as a sample to experiment with. Will definitely be making this dressing. Thanks!

Dang it – I really wish I’d never seen that video bc that IS totally gross. And then they treat it with BLEACH at the end? “To lighten the color”… Are you kidding me?!? Ugh.

gross. canola oil is in everything bc canadian goverment subsidizes it. it is genetically engineered from oil that is toxic to humans (rapeseed).

Oh yummy… and I had heard about how they make it – but the video made it worse for me. I love making my own salad dressing… it always tastes better. I am going to look for pear vinegar at the store this week… fingers crossed.

Oh my goodness! You have got to be kidding me! EW! That video is disgusting! Now I need to show it to everyone that I know!!

What are your thoughts on cooking with ghee? I am just starting to learn about it.

I was disgusted by the canola cake that they feed to cattle… then the solvent wash, and bleach too?! I will never buy canola oil again. Ever. And that mess is where shortening comes from?! Oh my gosh. Love you Marla. :)
