Crafty? Um. No.

April 19, 2011 in design , family

In case you did not know, I am not crafty! I mean, I am in my head. But not so much in real life. I do however have some mad spray painting skills. And by skills, I mean, I CAN and DO spray paint things from time to time in order to feel powerful.

So let me show you my latest spray painting victory….

Back in January I bought 6 of these ikea dressers. They are inexpensive and just the right size for night-stands and small spaces (aka our closets).

Frick and Frack wanted to help assemble them, so we went after it, assembling 5 of them in one sitting.

Just 5? Why not all 6 ?

Well, Shane complained about our construction skills so we left him the last one to do himself. He really should know by now how sensitive I am. (It’s still in the box, by the way).

(Note: Avery quit after the first one, leaving Van and I to slave away alone.)

Back to painting.

Here is the before. Try not to be jealous of my mad photo skills. I only had a 100mm macro lens. oops.

This is where the action happens. I am very particular about keeping things nice and clean. :) Actually, Shane likes it when I “decorate” the pine straw, right Shane?

And here we have the tools I use. I have also painted a bed and a chair this same grey color and I find it very versatile!

And since I know you are just dying to see the final product, I’ll stop typing and get to it.

Your impressed, right?! I know, me too! It really is amazing what you can do with a can of spray paint and a strong index finger!

Go. Buy. Paint.

You are hilarious. I’ve been dying to know what color Rover’s bed was and I’ve looked at both Home Depot and Walmart trying to guess and now I’m sooooo relieved to know! Your last post was great and I’m with Erin your blog has sucked but I see it coming back to life, and listen, if you like nourishing food… WRITE about it! I need some ideas and I know you’re full of them!

I love this! I need some bedside tables, great idea!
And your blog is fun, even if you don’t update it all that often :)

Very impressive paint job. And at least you’re using your index finger – I’m still just a dreamer.

Also, do you have any online recommendations for lens rentals? I’m donating my very rudimentary camera skills to the kids preschool for picture day next week (50+ kids), I’m not sure what I was thinking, but I do know I need more than my 50mm lens.

    Miss you! xo

I feel good knowing that neither the wooden bedside tables nor the pinestraw in the back yard will be rusting anytime soon.

They look wonderful! Yay, for rust free pinestraw ;) ha

Hi! I love how the dresser turned out! What do you think about pushing 2 together to have more drawer space and make it more of a dresser than a nightstand? I need a dresser for cheap for our nursery and love this idea. Thanks!! staci

I think they look great! I *nearly* bought 2 of those ikea dressers earlier this month. At the last minute, I chickened out because I was worried I would mess them up while trying to spray paint. I’m feeling inspired now. Thanks, Marla.

p.s. I’m glad your blog isn’t “sucking” any more.

Love ur craftiness!! Looks great. And I’m dying over the “decorating” pinestraw comment…. :)

ok, so you’re blog might just not suck now ;-) i’m impressed with your mad skills. especially the cool knob touch. i once bought a kiddie kitchen from ikea and spent around oh, maybe 5 hours assembling it only to realize a fundamental piece was inside out! you and van are welcome to be top dog carpenters in our house any day!!!

First of all – I really miss you! Second look how cool those look. See if Shane can top that! ;)

Love the two-tone finishes. Way to go! Your house rocks. What size pulls did you use?

I am SO stealing this idea! I, too, like things “clean” and organized. I’ve banned anything plastic from my life so these are a perfect solution on so many levels! Thanky thanks :)
